A Practice of Listening
Before becoming a picture-book author-illustrator, Circle Yuen worked in community and social justice spaces in Hong Kong. Her practice explored gender, family relationships, and the ways communities respond to change.
This experience continues to inform her approach to picture books, particularly her interest in children's emotional lives, family change and belonging.
In 2020, the South China Morning Post named her one of five Asian women rethinking gender equality.
Selected Projects
Two Nests,
Love From Both
A community-based project exploring co-parenting, family change and new forms of family life, developed with families in Hong Kong.
Community theatre
The project moved from workshop to stage, using shadow play and performance to share what families had made together.

Today is Friday
An earlier picture-book project developed from this community practice, exploring children's experiences of parental separation.
